Recurring Dreams and Meaning

Recently I've dreamed about mud: walking in it, scraping the yucky stuff off of my shoes, and getting my hands in it too. This has been a recurring dream theme over the past month.

What's it all mean? Why do dreams re-occur?

The first dream about walking along a slippery muddy path full of dark puddles caught my attention. Then I forgot about it until the dream about muddy shoes followed. I began to suspect a recurring dream theme was starting. I haven't had a recurring series of dreams for a while. Last night, I was playing with mud pies...slapping handfuls of wet clay in a mountainous pile and being quite creative, and caring how my fantacy sculpture turned out. Hmmmm, lol.

I can't blame the weather for my crazy recurring dreams--spring's rainy days are yet to come and the ground is still frozen. I haven't walked on a muddy road since last April.
Maybe my dreams are wishful thinking: I don't like ice and snow and would welcome an April shower.

Many of the dreams submitted here on the dreamer's site for interpretation are ones that repeat themselves over weeks, months and even years. Don't you find they can get tiresome? Oh, no...here's that dream again! When you wake up feeling spent and weary... don't you wonder what's the reason for it?...why do the same familiar images keep on appearing and bothering you? Wouldn't it be nice to get a fresh new dream?

A dreams-teller can help you interpret your recurring dreams. This type of dream wants to get in touch with you (the dreamer), wants to tap you on the shoulder, wants to give you a message. If you keep ignoring it then it keeps popping up again.

What To Do
Jot down the actions and images as soon as you awaken
Note the dates you had the dreams
Remember if you took an active role in your dream or only observed
Record any future similar dreams
How, if at all, did the dream story progress or change?
What emotions do you remember feeling?

Publish your dream here under Comments, keeping it as short as possible due to restricted space. You can be anonymous, but it helps a lot if you title your dream and sign off with a name--make one up. That way, I can refer to you in a more personal way.

Singing In My Dream

Last night I dreamed I was Lady GaGa. I found myself on stage, spot lights blazing...this was no intimate karaoke bar. Hundreds of people sat watching me. They expected any second I would open my mouth and break into my latest hit song. Only thing...I couldn't remember the lyrics, just didn't know what I was expected to sing for them. Then something unusual happened. I became part of the audience too! Yes. I was able to watch myself up on stage. I began to sing without knowing the words to the song--they just popped into my mouth and came out automatically. It was like remembering how to swim or ride a bike. You just know how to do it. The thought occured to me while dreaming that this person wasn't really me, that I'm not a performer. I couldn't even recall ever hearing the song before. Yet, magically the lyrics sprang forth from my throat, and the audience lapped it up. Lady GaGa would have been proud.

What Precipitates a Singing Dream?

Making changes. I don't mean moving to a new house or apartment--not that kind of change. More like having thoughts about expressing your inner feelings. Looking for ways to be more creative and getting in touch with yourself.

In my case, I've recently gone back to painting--pictures, landscapes, that kind of thing. Years ago, I packed it in after getting discouraged...Picasso I wasn't. I hesitated to get started again thinking I'd forgotten everything I had learned years ago. I figured I would need to start from square one and learn all over again about drawing and using paints. Well, it all came back automatically. As soon as I got started, it all came back--just like a dream. Why I was singing instead of painting...who knows? That's just the way dreams work. I woke up happy and encouraged believing I made the right decision after feeling very doubtful about resurrecting my old hobby.

Typewriter Dream

How many people out there have ever dreamed about a typewriter? I'll bet not many. Well, fellow dreamers last night I dreamed I was sitting in front of an old fashioned manual typewriter (that's not me in the photo)...typing...when the ribbon ended.

In case you've never heard of typewriter ribbons let me explain. Often, the used carbon ribbon had to be replaced with a new one (a very messy job. If you weren't careful the ribbon unravelled from the spool and ended up rolling under the desk). That's what I was doing in the dream--changing the ribbon on my machine.
I didn't have a clue what this dream could possibly mean. I told you in my previous post that I was having some weird dreams lately. Well, my dream dictionary didn't have a listing for typewriters. They had one for typist though. Here's what it said:
As long as the typewriter or computer that you are using is working then you are able to make progress in your life. Mine was temporarily out of order, but I was capable of fixing it to get the machine up and running again. So, just a little set back that's all. Life is all about little stops and starts.
