Car Driving Dreams, Who's At The Wheel

That's an important detail to remember when dreaming about driving in a car...who's at the wheel. Every week, at least two or three car driving dreams are submitted for interpretation. Sometimes it's the dreamer who is driving...other times it's a friend.

Car dreams are very personal...
If you, the dreamer are the one who is driving, then you are in control of your own direction in life. That could indicate (depending upon the situation) you are capable of making the needed improvements to your life's challenges. If on the other hand your son, for example, is driving and you are the passenger, well dear dreamer that's obvious isn't it--he's the one telling you what to do with your life.

Any kind of vehicle counts:
Buses, trains, planes, trucks, etc. I used to dream all the time of getting on a bus and staring out the window as it sped by fields and towns. I had no idea where the bus was taking me or why. When I woke up from the dream I felt sad. I didn't want to be on that bus because I disliked feeling helpless and I wanted to be the one to decided where I was going. Now that I understand the reason for the bus dream, I was able to adjust my thinking and now seldom get a dream like that anymore. In other words, the dream had a definite message for me. Because I paid attention, I was able to send this recurring dream on its merry way.

Trees of Dreams and Meaning

To many people, the winter holiday season often brings dreams of trees. What do they mean? If you've seen trees in your dreams it's important to remember how it looked: alive with green leaves, or a dead tree, an evergreen, or a palm tree, a fallen tree, or a decorated Christmas tree.

A tree is an important and meaningful dream symbol. An old superstition says that trees foretell of Luck in Love, especially it you are planting one in your dream.

Two dreams about trees were submitted for interpretation recently: in one, the dreamer was surrounded in a dense forest while the second was about feeling very sad about a nice big tree that was about to be cut down. (See Anita's The Big Tree in Comments).

We all have a primal relationship to trees and this is why they can often represent aspects of ourselves and how we are currently feeling about life. You can see yourself climbing up a tree for a place of refuge--a child in a tree house--or clinging to a sturdy branch to escape a threat.

If the setting of your dream is a forest where you are surrounded by a woods (a collection of tall trees), that block out the sunlight, and leave you feeling isolated... something in your life is being very confining. This situation speaks of being temporarily imprisoned, unable to grow and progress toward your goals.

Branches of trees full of green leaves is a very positive dream symbol. Green being a vibrant color is one reason, and the branches indicate the dreamer is reaching outwards, growing and thriving. They herald what the future holds. A dead branch...you can just imagine...has negative images and could even mean death of a relationship! Roots say you're dreaming about the past and the trunk is the present situation.

What if you dream about an apple tree in flower? This is a very feminine dream and could mean pregnancy. Oak tree in a dream tells of strength, perseverance, a person who is able to face hardship. (Some say that the cross of Jesus was an oak tree).

Here is some good advice...something we can all learn from our friends the trees:
- Thrive and grow where you are planted--be adaptable.
- If they call you a late bloomer, just remember...the slow turtle won the race.
- If you have to go out on a limb, make sure there's a net underneath.
- Before you decide to pine away over lost opportunities, stock up on tissue.
- Flexibility is essential in a hurricane.

Nightmares & Bad Dreams

An evil ghostly spirit threatens to swallow and smother all the living breath from your body. This thing has been stalking you relentlessly...it feels like days...and now you're worn down to a shivering lump of fear. Whose screaming face is that?...it's yours! Just as the monster is reaching to scoop you up, mercifully you wake up.
That's a Nightmare.

Bad Dreams Are Different From Nightmares

Most of our dreams are bad dreams. That's what expert dream research people say. They've studied people, and animals too, in sleep labs. Turns out 75% of our dreams are negative. If it wakes you up, it's a nightmare. If you continue sleeping it's just another...

bad dream.

Nightmares occur more frequently than we think...for adults, usually once a month. Children start getting bad dreams around the age of five and it's believed they're caused by fearfulness: (e.g., school pressures, parental expectations, other kids, movies, etc.)

Dreams Happen in REM

Vivid dreams come during REM (rapid eye motion) sleep. Before reaching REM stage sleep, you first have to go through three preliminary stages of sleep. Your muscles gradually relax until finally, when you reach REM, they are completely limp (paralyzed) while experiencing the first dream of the night. There's a good reason for this...you are being protected during your visit to dreamland lying still instead of tossing around, trying to run away and falling out of bed.

Benefits to Bad Dreams & Nightmares

Many... actually most of the dreams submitted to A Dreams-Teller are bad dreams, and while reading them, I sense the fear and anxiety of the dreamer. Let me assure you dear dreamers, no matter how evil and horrific your dream was with images of: killers, knives, guns, zombies, ghosts, drowning, falling... these kind of dreams have benefits. Yes, benefits! You are not going crazy.

What's Really Going On?
What's happening during the bad dream/nightmare is a cleansing process of fears, bad experiences and memories of an event, situations, or people that may have scared or worried you during your waking hours. It is very beneficial for you to re-live the scary stuff, to face it down and conquer it in the dream. Facing your fears, even in a nightmare helps you to cope. This is the latest research findings of sleep and dream experts to keep in mind when sending in a dream to be interpreted.
